Drinking Water Quality Report

We have recently released our Annual Drinking Water Quality Report. This report is designed to inform our customers about the quality of water and services we deliver. A copy of the report is provided to all the residents of Klickitat County who are supplied with drinking water. The PUD's constant goal is to provide a safe and dependable supply of drinking water; we're pleased to report that we met that goal.

The report shows that our drinking water is safe and meets federal and state requirements (with no violations). The report shows the results of our monitoring for 2005; you can request a copy of the report by contacting the water department at 509-773-7621. You can also access the water system below that serves you for specific information.

Our water systems are routinely monitored for constituents in the drinking water. All drinking water (including bottled drinking water) may reasonably be expected to contain small amounts of some constituents. It's important to remember that the presence of these constituents does not necessarily pose a health risk. But, some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice from their health care providers.

For more information on ways to reduce the risk of infection by crypotosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

Glossary

  • Non-Detects (ND) - laboratory analysis indicates that the constituent is not present.
  • Parts per million (ppm) or Milligrams per liter (mg/l) - one part per million corresponds to one dollar in a $1,000,000.00 or a single penny in $10,000.00.
  • Million Fibers per Liter (MFL)- million fibers per liter is a measure of the presence of asbestos fibers that are longer than 10 micrometers.
  • Action Level - the concentration of a contaminant which, if exceed, requires treatment or other procedures which a water system must follow.
  • Maximum Contaminant Level Goal - The "Goal" (MCLG) is the level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety.
  • Maximum Contaminant Level - The "Maximum Allowed" (MCL) is the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology.
