New Budget Year Begins

For current Budget Payment customers, May begins a new budget year. You will find your new budget amount on your bill. If you have any questions, give us a call at 509-773-5891, or toll free at 800-548-8357.

This amount is due on the due date printed on the bill. We no longer have a separate due date for budget payments. We also no longer send budget coupons; your monthly bill is your only reminder of your budget amount and due date.

If you are not currently a Budget Payment customer, simply fill out the form included in your April power bill, and mail it back when you send your payment, or drop it off at one of the PUD offices. If you don't have a form, just call our office to sign up. You will need to provide your account number and a signature before the plan can be implemented.

If higher power bills during heating or air conditioning seasons strain your budget, look into the PUD's Budget Payment Plan. Budget payment customers pay the same amount for electricity each month, and that makes it a lot easier on their checking accounts.

Power use for the average residential customer looks like the charts below - a high bill of $94 one month, a moderate bill for $59 a few months later, and another for $43 a few months after that. You're never sure what to expect when you open your bill.

With the Budget Payment Plan, you pay the same amount in a year that you currently pay, but it is divided into equal payments. Here's how it works: We take your power usage for the past year and divide it by 12. That becomes your budget payment for the next 12 months. Your total power costs are the same, but you pay them in 12 equal, predictable and convenient payments. Plus, there are periodic adjustments if your energy use is much higher or lower than the previous year.
