Public Power Week review
Ruralite - November 2003
Signs on Power Poles Dangerous and Illegal
The nails, staples, tape and rope used to attach the signs present a physical hazard to the linemen who climb the poles. They can also damage the lineman's insulated safety gloves. A tiny puncture can expose a person to severe shock from power lines.
The nails also damage the poles, piercing the sealed outer layers, allowing insects and water to enter and accelerate the decaying process. When poles decay they must be replaced at a cost to the ratepayers (you) who own the PUD (and the poles).
If you see someone posting a sign, please remind them of the hazards or report it to the PUD.
Keep Path Clear for Meter Readers
Is it difficult to access? Is the path hidden by tall grass or covered with wet leaves? Is it obstructed by fallen branches, debris or garbage? Is the meter covered by bushes? Does the cement or decking become slick when wet? Is the area flooded or muddy?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, please take a few minutes to make the pathway safe for your meter reader. Thanks!
