A Reminder on Rate Classes
The rate class you're in depends on what you use the electricity for and, in some cases, how much you use. Check your bill. If you think you're in the wrong rate class, call our Customer Service Department at 773-5891 or toll-free at 800-548-8357.

Most PUD customers are in the Residential and Farm Service class. These customers have singe-phase electricity that serves a single-family residence or farm. Of the PUD's 9,800 customers, 8,000 fall in this category.

Small General Service applies to non-residential, single-phase power customers who use less than 15,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in a calendar year. (That is about what the average residential customer uses each year). Small businesses and other non-residential uses (shops, detached garages, etc.) are included.

Medium General Service is a rate class created just this year. They are three-phase power customers with annual power use of less than 180,000 kilowatt hours in a calendar year. It is also for single-phase service with energy consumption of more than 15,000 but less than 180,000 kilowatt hours a year. Typical customers are churches, offices, schools and banks.

Large General Service is used to bill some of the PUD's largest customers. It is used for three-phase power customers with annual power use of more than 180,000 kilowatt hours a year. Typical customers are grocery stores, motels, hospitals, warehouses and manufacturing facilities.

Finally, there are two Irrigation rate classes. They apply only to power used to run irrigation pumps for agricultural purposes.
