Tour the Plant | LFG Facts | LFG Data | How it Works | How Green is Green? | Photos
  • Project size: 1999: 8.4 megawatts. 2000: 10.5 megawatts. Opportunity to grow to 50 megawatts (enough power to meet all of the PUD’s current load).
  • Annual generation: Year 1: 66 million kilowatt hours (or 24 percent of the PUD’s 1997 load). Year 2: 87 million kwh (est.)
  • Fuel source: Methane produced by 12 tons of waste at the Roosevelt Regional Regional Landfill.
  • Future fuel source: The landfill has a permitted capacity of 120 million tons of waste. That will provide a reliable energy source for the next half century.
  • Where does the energy go: Year 1: Snohomish PUD in Everett (5 mw), Benton PUD in Pasco (1 mw), Clallam PUD in Port Angeles (1 mw) and Pacific PUD (1/3 mw).
  • Project cost and financing: $13 million, financed through bonds. Power sales will cover debt service and operating costs.
  • Impact on PUD rates: Will provide greater long-term power cost stability and help keep rates down.
