PUD Commissioner Harold Hill was surprised to find all of his family and many of his fellow commissioners from around the state at the one-year anniversary of the PUD's landfill gas-to-energy plant. It made sense, however, when he learned the Roosevelt facility had been named the "H.W. Hill Landfill Gas Power Plant" in his honor.

The announcement was made at the July 15, 2000 celebration to mark the plant's first year of commercial operation and dedicate a fifth engine. About 150 people-including the unsuspecting guest of honor-attended the event.

Board President Randy Knowles and Brian Skeahan, General Manager, praised Harold's quarter-century of service to the PUD. A representative of the Washington PUD Association and other PUD commissioners from around the state paid tribute to Harold's lifelong commitment to public power and his service to the statewide group.

Harold quipped that people don't usually get to hear such nice things about them "until they are laying in the back of the room with their hands folded over their chest."
